Roger Fenton/Richard Prince comparison
I think picture 1 is fake because it doesn’t seem real. Also the sky looks like a painting and the horse and the actor is real but the backboard just looks fake and makes the project fake if I have to rate it. it would be a 6/10.
Picture 2 looks like a valley a nice valley but the backstory the war just messed the nature like it was nice Greenland with the blue skies and the grass then the war (included England \France \ Russia) started all the cannonball shells are everywhere dead soldiers and stuff like that its nice but backstories are making it sad.it was named THE VALLEY OF DEATH FOR BEING UNDER CONSTANT BOMBING THERE. I feel sad for the soldiers for being shellshocked .

CONSTRUCTED LANDSCAPES: What Remains
In Geraldo de Barros' picture I can see a tree. It is a big tree with lots of branches. Surrounding the tree is a blank, black space. It looks as though the artist has cut the tree out from its background. I think that what is missing is the ground and parts of the sky. In Geraldo' picture I find it unusual that Geraldo that why did he cut some parts of the tree. When I look at Liz' picture it looks confusing because you cant understand anything you look at its a mix of black pieces of board which Liz tried to put it into a shape. If I attempted to make a picture like this I would use Geraldo' picture because its easier. I would firstly get a nice picture of a nice big tree in a nice big park. Secondly I would cut the tree carefully after I would stick the tree onto a blackboard for the background of the tree adjust the room light then its the same as Geraldo'.I think the artists are removing the landscapes for making us think harder to understand where the landscape is and about the landscape the thing is imagine a sea side you’ll have a sun, sea, sand and a palm tree if you remove the sun and the palm tree you’ll start to to think harder to understand what the landscape is or where like a place with sand and sea but no star in the sky so you’ll think is it a man made pool with sand.I’ll Prefer picture 1 because it’s much easier to understand what the image is about and where it could be like a tree is in a park.
TREES & WATER
I think the 19th picture about the train track is a nice picture because the angle it’s taken from is nice and different and the tree next to the railway just makes it look like it’s a abounded or countryside railway also the building because it’s made from brick which makes me think it’s like a ticket seller for the trains. The 9th picture I thought of it while I was walking by the pond when I looked in that direction I instantly saw a picture there so, when I took it I crouched to make the view point like a predator sneaking up to his prey over the long grasses.well I tried to do it by the view of the pond towards the park the reason I liked this one is because I instantly came to my mind when I looked towards the pond.
Google GLITCHES
I tried to find some pictures on google maps that were glitched or had a physical barrier that blocked the view. I started by opening google maps and zooming out to the worlds most populated country because the higher the population the higher the usage of google maps. So I went to India first which I found some weird pictures first such as the 2nd one the persons legs are there but not the upper part such as the torso and above. Also for 6 the rest of the shadow is not there, only the upper part of the car and the camera is visually while the rest of the is gone.
DAFNA TALMOR
Dafna Talmor once went to an interview and said "outlines are manifested in different ways, depending on the felt tip marker that I used to outline the edges and the thickness of the line" she described how she made the cut pieces of pictures i think its clever what she has done.
ABSTRACT ADVENT 2021
CONSTRUCTED landscapes slides
I started my slides by getting the material which are 35mm transparent slides which were brought on ebay, cellophane, cutting mat, cello tape, scalpel, different coloured ink and a slide projector. I started off by pulling the film out of the slide and putting it on the cutting mat. I picked up the scalpel and cut the film in angle where I wanted to get the important buildings, nature and more. After cutting the film I placed them on the 35mm transparent slides and on the empty places I placed coloured cellophane to cover the empty places and painted them with ink to put an extra colour to make the background better. After doing all of that I cut at least 10mm of cello tape to stick the pictures on the 35mm transparent slide. While I was making the slides the ideas I thought of were should I try to make a picture out of over peoples memories. Such as picture 1 the bottom part of it it’s just rocks in middle of the Forrest that I found and the top part of it is trees and stuff to fill up the top part of the transparent slide and in the middle I put a picture of a building which looks like a special building because Someone wouldn’t take a picture of a normal building and I put some cellophane behind the pictures and painted them in yellow to make it look old looking.I found them easy to do because I looked at the film slides and saw the interesting pictures and I thought to my self saying what would it look like if I mix them together and I did and the 2 pictures look nice.To make them constructed landscape I mixed different pictures from 35mm transparent slides by cutting the parts that I like of the picture and combining them together in this 35mm transparent slide and I tried to make a nice picture out of the pieces I cut laying them on the transparent slide and placing a cellotape behind it and closing the 35mm transparent slide.Well if I do this activity again the thing I would change is I'll try to make it look like 1. picture because the colour and the pictures colour make it look nice. Thats the only thing I would change if I need to do this activity again.Next time if I need to do it again I would start to change the layup of the piece I cut or I'll add more colours(ink)to make my new 35mm transparent slide.
These are some example of how I made my 35mm transparent slides.
Manipulated constructed landscape slides
And these are some of the slides that I interacted with by using my hand to use it as a screen and in the other pictures I use cardboard with a square piece cut of it and finally the picture which I used a board on it to focus the part that I liked on the picture.
chemigrAMS
A Chemigram is made by painting with chemicals on photographic paper and lies within the general domain of experimentation in the visual arts.It requires the use of materials from silver halide-based photography such as light sensitive paper, developer, and fixer. Also Chemigrams can be made solely with photo paper, developer, and fixer, with results that will somewhat resemble watercolour. The possibilities can be multiplied by using materials from painting (such as varnish, wax, or oil).
INFO ABOUT CHEMIGRAMS:
The inventor of chemigram, was Pierre Cordier. Born on January 28th in Brussels Belgium, Cordier is known in the world of art for practicing this technique. A former lecturer in Brussels, Cordier invented this different way of photographing on November 10th 1956, and has had many exhibitions around the world including the Victoria & Albert Museum in London in 2010. |
this is the PROGRESS of making the developer
This is a 30 minute video about me and my classmates trying to make a Chemigram on a piece of paper by using resist which is developer and mix. The developer is a lavender tea so, basically we grabbed some lavender from the school's garden and we mixed them with boiled water and we added washing up powder. We used suncream and a moisturizer as resists.
AND THIS IS THE RESULT
I really liked the result. It reminds me of inside a rock or marble.
Photoshop Experiments
pictures of Turkey
These are some pictures I took while going to my village in Turkey, Gumushane
Also these are some pictures I took when I went to the mountains in Trabzon,Turkey
Finally, these are some pictures I took when I went to a holiday place in Gocek, Turkey.
Experiments with text
Firstly, I started by uploading the pictures I took while traveling across Turkey. After, I imported them to Photoshop and made a new layer and used the paint bucket to add colour. I used the "multiply" blending mode which combined the background colour with the photograph.
Secondly, I wrote some feelings and memories about landscapes from my holiday into a A4 paper. I scanned them with the printer which sent the images to my school email. I dragged the images to the Photoshop app and layered them on top of the coloured landscape photos. I inverted the text and increased the contrast so it was visible.

final evaluation
My theme was Constructed Landscapes. To be honest the first time I heard about it I was excited because I had taken some pictures while being in Turkey. I was thinking that I could use these images for my project. As I started to edit these pictures I got even more excited and my interest increased. I had researched the work of Ed Ruscha during my project. I really like the way he combines images and texts in his work.
I have thought about Threshold Concept #1 - Photography has many new genres, some old, some borrowed, some new. My family photographs of a holiday have become something else. I have transformed them by adding my writing.

I started my final exhibition by using the pictures I took in Turkey. I saw a picture that has text on it and I thought about how I could describe how I felt while looking at those pictures. After I wrote my feelings I knew they would look good added to my images. When I first started working on this project the pictures I was taking were pretty easy and fun but when we started to think about what landscapes mean it started to get a bit harder. For example, The chemigrams process was difficult because we needed to get some plants from the garden of the school and boil them for 5-10 mins. Then you needed to use suncream as a resist on the light sensitive photographic paper and some of the herbal tea (boiled plant) as a developer. This made me think about how photography can be a problem for the planet but also could be done in a more sustainable way. Finally, I have decided to present my final exhibition by opening a new page and uploading my final images there. Also I have written the translated English text underneath the images for anyone who doesn't read Turkish. To be honest I never thought it was going to be this great. My project is actually perfect. It has worked the way I wanted. I think I have successfully explored the theme because looking at the old work I’ve done for my website I’ve been repeating myself a bit. My final project was different. I took more of a risk. I like my work and sharing the fascinating places I have been, nature and the feelings I felt while taking the pictures, the atmosphere of the places and what it looks like in my village and my hometown.
